Owlcat Games Reveals Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader Expansions
In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, there are only quality CRPGs.
Praise be to the Emperor of Mankind; developer Owlcat Games, best known for its Pathfinder series of CRPGs and the excellent Rogue Trader, has announced its next game: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. In addition, Rogue Trader’s next expansion has been revealed, along with plans for future additions.
Revealed during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase (thanks, IGN), Dark Heresy will follow in Rogue Trader’s footsteps, an epic narrative and party-based CRPG, the official blurb for which describes it thusly:
“Step into the shadows as an acolyte of the Inquisition in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a second narrative-driven tactical RPG set in the beloved grimdark universe. Set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption — from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary.”
On the Rogue Trader front, the game’s second major expansion, Lex Imperialis, got a release date, arriving on PS5 on 24th June. Adding another 15-hour storyline to the already lengthy campaign, it introduced the fearsome Adeptus Arbites faction and new companion Solomorne Anthar.
A third and even fourth expansion were teased as if that wasn't enough. While no timeline was given for these future offerings, they will involve delving into a Necron vault and exploring a surreal voidship graveyard, respectively. It is with a heavy, but purpose-filled heart that we must now fire up a fresh Rogue Trader campaign in anticipation.
